Pesticide Use Practices and Effects on the Wetland Biodiversity of Ndop, North West Region of Cameroon

Aims: The aim of this study was to evaluate farmer’s pesticide use practices and their effects in the wetland Ndop.
 Study Design: A cross sectional carried out from January August 2019 Ndop, North West Region Cameroon.
 Methodology: Questionnaires were administered separately 382 rice 100 vegetable farmers, descriptive statistics used analyzing results. Specifically, Chi-squared statistic determine nature relationship between variables.
 Results: results showed that most crop fields (95.6%) lack a buffer zone since farms adjacent water bodies (0 ≥farm ≥1 m). Farmers (100%) washed rinsed knapsack sprayers nearby bodies. majority farmers (71.3%) burnt or threw empty containers open fields, bodies, bushes. Both (83.5%) reported pesticides kill non-target organisms (fish, frogs, toad, snakes, birds, etc.) resulting into drastic population decline wetland. (85.2%) no longer do fishing paddy because frequent fish caused by usage. Clarias gariepinus constituted 56% species harvested observed farmers. average catch per month low (12.22 kg ± 7.47 SD) relative past when not during cultivation. There significant difference training environmental awareness (X2 = 28.98, p 0.001).
 Conclusion: These indicate an urgent need for post-pesticide registration management strategy ensure sustainable conservation resources Ndop.
